Fourth of July Lake

Fourth of July Lake
Mokelumne Wilderness, Sierra Nevada, California. Looking west. I feel privileged to have made it to this lake--it's a _long_ hike involving lots of altitude gain & loss, and I almost had to give it up. So here's the documentation! ;) Inserts at top left show (L-R) views to the south, west, and north; inserts at top right show the water clarity--and all the pine pollen that's blown up along the shore!

Thanks, Pam! It just shows that just pushing on can be counterproductive. I backed off, rested some, got rehydrated, had a granola bar--and then I got a second wind! A moral there, perhaps ;)

This is something I understand ! When i took this place on I did not factor in getting older. Now.. with HUGE reluctance... I have to to things in stages... not all at once. It galls me .. but its better than killing myself.. sort of !!

How long did the hike take? Well done for keeping going.
I see there are still patches of snow in the mountains.

Thanks! Yeah, there are still patches of snow in the higher elevations--as there should be in a normal water year! There were even a few dwindling patches alongside the trail, which the dogs appreciated:

We started from the trailhead right at noon--and got back about 8:30 that evening! It was still twilight, barely--
