Mooney Falls

Mooney Falls
Havasu Creek, a tributary of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. This was the waterfall in one of the opening scenes in the original Planet of the Apes, with Charlton Heston. The area lies in the Havasupai Reservation; Supai Village, the only permanent settlement in the Grand Canyon, is a few miles upstream. I've heard that a large flood has subsequently rearranged the falls, but I haven't been back in the last 35+ years!

, William Sutherland, Roger Dodger have particularly liked this photo

Thanks, everyone! It's a bit surreal because of that turquoise water--which _is_ real, not a processing artifact. Colloidal calcium carbonate scatters the light--Havasu Creek actively deposits CaCO3 as travertine, and tiny crystals are suspended in the water.

The old film has lasted well. Thanks for the note on the colours, definitely an unusual effect. This beautiful image was Scene In ?

Thanks, everyone! It's not in the well-known parts of the Grand Canyon, but it's definitely worth a visit. I'd walked up from the Colorado River, but there traditionally have been tourist pack trips available down to Supai Village.
