Feral burros
Pershing County, Nevada, USA. Herds of feral burros have locally become established in the US West, to the point they've become a problem due to their overgrazing. Of course, they were the cliche prospectors' beast of burden, but they were also widely used as pack animals, and still are to some degree even now. Btw, the Spanish word has been adopted for these animals; "a$$" has a very different meaning in American English!
