Observation

If I don't drive around the park
I'm pretty sure to make my mark.
If I'm in bed each night by ten
I might get back my looks again.
If I abstain from fun and such,
I'll probably amount to much;
But I will stay the way I am -
Because I do not give a damn.

Dorothy Parker

This was a frustrating week. Our family had to deal with computer breaches (PayPal and more) and even worse (haha) the photo I was excited to use - to go along with an Edna St Vincent Millay poem - did not fit at all when I looked at it again. : (
So this one is my choice.
The ever pithy, Algonquin Round Table wit, Dorothy Parker.
The photo is from a late friend of my mother's who was an artist and had kept these studio photos to use for portraits - and then passed them on.

Xata, buonacoppi, Aschi "Freestone" and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Oh no, it does sound like you had a challenging week, Deborah! But Dorothy Parker's sardonic verse is a delightful match for this lovely portrait, and I do hope that this week is starting off better for you!

Ooo, sorry about digital problems. Lovely photo and I love the poem. I admire her free spirit. My mom and dad lived at the Algonquin for a couple of months in late 1947 and she mentioned that celebrities still occasionally visited the dining room where the famed "Roundtable" crowd assembled. Your photo led me to research it a bit more and I was surprised to learn that that group's gatherings ended by 1930.

Thanks, Rick. My Dad was always enamored by the Algonquin table wits.
I grew up reading the rest of the family's library books (once when I was done with my own) so I learned quite a lot about the Algonquin crowd over the years.
