"Don't Give Up the Ship" with Lines & Stripes

"Don't Give Up the Ship" with Lines & Stripes
I forgot about this perfect ship motto when I posted the Ipernity plea a few weeks back- I suppose it might have worked better than the "magic spoon" one. : )
Oh, well. Now I get to use it for...LINES/STRIPES, the current theme of Vintage Photos Theme Park.
This is a photo (glass plate negative) chock full of lines, but it does include a few stripes as well. (On the flags.)
The dealer I bought this from told me it came from a family in Connecticut. (Along with several others I bought at the same time.)
The man in the photograph has moved - hence the strange, pointy looking piratey peg-leg.

This is so great! I love the motto and the "No smoking on this ship" sign. I wonder what that piece of equipment is on the right. And is that actually the ship's wheel below the motto? Isn't a wheel like this usually located in an open bridge area with a clear view of the water ahead?

Thanks, Alan. And you're right about the ship's wheel - although I admit my only frame of reference is being on Shelburne Museum's "Ticonderoga". But it wouldn't be possible to see the way ahead, would it? Perhaps someone can enlighten us.

Oh boy, I've got my work cut out for me on this theme. (I lamely missed last week, and other than forgetfulness could have participated). Nice one! I love the cross beams up near the top and the sign right by the wheel.

Ellie - it was a bit of a struggle for me, too - especially since my time has been so curtailed lately that I've only lazily been using my already scanned photos! (Mostly unposted, but previously scanned on an iPhoto album.)
