Brian went in for heart surgery today. He had a congenital defect - one of his heart valves - and needed a replacement.
It was a long procedure - 5 hours and then over an hour in ICU before we could see him - but I'm very happy that everything went really well - and apart from that valve his heart is healthy.
The surgeon told us the original valve was totally shot - very heavily calcified - and that he should notice a huge difference with this new one. I can only imagine how much he'll be biking now - since he tried to talk the doctor a week ago (between fainting spells) into condoning a hundred mile bike ride this past week. "I don't have any real symptoms, it's a very flat ride, etc.)
He had about ten tubes in him tonight - but a very small incision - and the nurse assures us tomorrow he'll be up and walking. And home by Friday or Saturday.
