Fancy Clothes, Wintery Border

Fancy Clothes, Wintery Border
Brought forward for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of "Frames or Borders".
It sort of looks like they couldn't decide on a frame shape. Underneath the oddly transparent window-shaped one, there's an oval. And then, behind that, an off kilter border of winter trees - a background to the oval - and then the black border enclosing it all - in an uneven way.
I'm guessing this is mid to late 1870s, due to her hair style, drop earrings, and other attire.
Cabinet card found in Vermont.
"Lawson" is written on the back. No other identification.

Lovely photo, the frames situation does seem a little odd.

Despite the indecisive frame shapes, I really like the border of trees. And the woman's dress and hairstyle seems quite interesting, too.

Thank you, Alan. I like that attractive border, too. It's odd they would try to improve it - if that's what they were doing. Perhaps it was a slow day at the studio - or a new assistant!

Oh, that is interesting. So the photo was printed on the frame-designed paper? Interesting how the hair device she's wearing carries the small white ball design used in the dress. I wonder what they were made of. Ivory? Bone?

Hi Rick - yes, I think it was. I used to think that the oval was imposed on the trees, but it seems to me that that was "pre-bought. Still not sure of the transparency, though. Wouldn't a regular photo overlay blot out the background?
