Louis Gueymard by Disdéri (5)
Louis Gueymard (1822-1880); French tenor who was "First tenor" at the Grand Opéra Paris during the period 1848-1868. He sang at various premières. The most important were: Jonas in Meyerbeer's "Le Prophète" (1849), Phaon in Gounod's "Sapho" (1851), Rodolphe in Gounod's "La nonne sanglante" (1854), Henri in Verdi's "Les vêpres Siciliennes" (1855), Rene de Thouars in Halévy's "La Magicienne" , Adoniram in Gounod's "La reine de Saba" (1862) and Roland in Mermet's "Roland å Roncevaux". In "La reine de Saba" his wife Pauline Lauters-Gueymard created the role of Balkis and in "Roland å Roncevaux" the role of Alde.
