Benno Stolzenberg by Unknown
Benno Stolzenberg (1827-1906); German tenor.
In 1852 he made his debut in Königsberg as Almaviva in Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”. He remained at Königsberg until 1855 and from 1856/60 he was engaged at Stettin, Braunschweig and Würzburg. He then performed for a period of 15 years at the “Hoftheater von Karlsruhe”. In the season 1875/76 he was at Leipzig and 1876/79 again at Königsberg where he started his career. In 1879/82 he was engaged as a singer and as director at Danzig. He ended his career as a concert singer and a vocal teacher in Cologne and Berlin. He also composed some songs.His stage repertoire included 140 rôles.
His wife was the soprano Claire Stolzenberg-La Porte and their daughter Klara Stolzenberg (born 1865) was also a well known soprano.
