Auguste-Alphonse-Edmund Meillet by Constantin
Auguste-Alphonse-Edmund Meillet (1828-1871); French baritone who created the role of Miller in Adam's "La poupée de Nuremberg" (1852), Sganarelle in Gounod's "Le médecin malgré lui" (1858) and Docteur Mirouet in Von Flotow's "L'ombre" (1870).
In 1854 he sang at the first performance of Hector Berlioz's oratorio "L'enfance du Christ" the role of Joseph. His wife, the soprano Marie-Stéphanie Meillet, sang the role of Maria.
