I think this engine is the AVDS 1790-2B which was also used in the M46 tank.

According to Wikipedia it's specifically a Continental AV1790-5B. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blastolene_Special
I only know it was built by Chrysler, which is why Jay Leno often took it to this Mopar show in Van Nuys. Lately he's been bringing his 1963 Chrysler Turbine car. www.ipernity.com/doc/289455/21205177/in/album/405321
I guess this type of engine was used in several types of tanks as well as tank recovery vehicles and Howitzer motor carriages. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_AV1790
It has a displacement more than 29 times that of my Geo Metro's 993cc 3 cylinder engine. LOL : ]

You are right! I had a brain fart. When 'AV' is followed by 'DS' it means Diesel Supercharged. I worked on M60 tanks that had the AVDS 1790-2C engine. Sadly, the last time I looked Continental was owned by a Chinese company :-(
