Grass Lake
This lake bed used to have water then someone blew up dynamite which opened a sink hole and the lake drained now it is a marsh land and home to many species. Located in Northern California.

lovely misty moody image the colour and pine needles are great. I reckon if you levelled the horizon it would be a cracker of an image

yes, agree with Amazebobs there, that horizon needs levelling and it will be a superb image!

Gorgeous place...

Was the dynamite an act of vandalism or was it deliberately done to get rid of the water?

If the horizon were "straightened" it'd be just another landscape photo. Things are ascance here, look at the trees, the fence posts. The idea is to escape the horizonal and the perpendicular. The center tree being the closest to verticle. Thanks for your insights.

very moody michelle and beautifully presented. i agree that the sloping horizon is intrinsic to this scene and helps make it work so well.

There was a casino here but after the dynamite drained the lake the casino went belly up but now it's apparently a great habitat. Couldn't find anything on the internet but next time I'm passing through I'll photograph the story board. Thanks for all your comments even the ones about the horizon. This was taken with an LG G pad that I just got so I don't know if the horizon was intentionally tilted or not. I just take em as I see em.

Hard to imagine a lake just being drained away! Amazing - and a really lovely shot.

We saw the sink hole. If you ever get to Oregon this is one treasure you don't have to pay to see.
