Beauty of Love

Beauty of Love
In celebration of the Minnesota Legislature's passing the Gay Marriage bill, here is a quick series of two of my favorite girls, deep in love with each other! In a few weeks, hopefully, they will be able to marry in the great state of Minnesota!

I hope that this trend spreads and that soon everyone can get married to the person they love! I'm very proud to live in a state that didn't wait for everyone else to legalize gay marriage.

My partner and I have a Civil Union in NJ. I really hope that the US Supreme Court will decide in favor of overturning DOMA this summer. I want to be married, not just "civilly united", in my home state and in my country.

Generally, I try to keep my political beliefs out of my social media and doll photo interactions, but it just baffles me that a couple can be considered married in one state and not in several others, and that their federal government doesn't recognize their marriage, and that there are people who feel that is ok. I can understand if certain states don't want to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. There are differences between the states as far as age of consent, etc., so other differences in issuing marriage licenses are understandable (maybe not ok, but understandable). But anyone else who is married in the US, regardless of their age or race or the license rules of their home state, is considered married no matter where they go in the country, and they can file their federal taxes as a married couple. That is where I take issue. We can file as married/Civil Union for our state taxes, but we have to check the "single" box when we file our federal income taxes.

Stepping off of my soapbox now. :-) Things have come so far in the last 20-30 years. Even in the last 10 years!
