Loch Leven Castle

Loch Leven Castle
14th century tower house style castle on an island in Loch Leven. Has served as a home, a stronghold and as a prison. Its most famous prisoner was Mary Queen of Scots who was held here in 1567-8 when she was forced to abdicate the throne in favour of her infant son James VI. She managed to escape and fled to England.

Access to the island is via a ferry boat from Kinross. The property is managed by Historic Scotland.
