Very Small 'Mantle Clock'

Very Small 'Mantle Clock'
The movement is a verge escapement 'pocket watch' movement.
The case is wood, with gilt brass fittings, and brass inlay.
Hand-set and winding with key from rear.
Stands about 4 inches high.
Made early 1800's.
Scanned in from extremely poor quaility print.
I restored this clock in the early 1970's.

How common was it for 4:00 to be represented by IIII vs. IV?

Only just spotted this comment!
Almost always IIII was used- it balances the VIII.
