This was a two-person apartment as the one-person apartments were rented out. I had to pay around €60 per night.

Ouch!

My experience with hotel prices is that €20–€40 is very cheap and it is usually offered by hotel chains such as F1 and Première Class. Those are very simple hotels not always with your own bathroom. Simple privately-owned hotels usually costs about €40–€60. Simple hotels on good locations costs about €60–€120. €60 for a big apartment with free safe parking, swimming pool, close to city center and supermarket and daily linen service I find not very expensive.

Staying in hotels is not something we do very often, consequently we are rather out of touch other than we moved from England last year to France and used the Ibis chain on our way down to search for a new home.

Must admit Ibis had very competitive prices, and most importantly allowed our Charlie & Molly to stay with us, not many hotels will allow dogs.

Ibis hotels indeed offer good deals. There are several types of Ibis hotels, from cheap and basic to good and in the city centre.
