Queueing for a train ticket

Queueing for a train ticket
Probably British who miss queueing or Luddites who don't want to use the electronic public transport card.

Yeah, when I was travelling from Dublin to Dundalk last year, 20 people, seemingly locals, were queing up for a single ticket wicket. And I was like "Why? Aren't the e-ticket machines working??"

I proceeded to the e-ticket machine and bought my ticket before the queue moved up by one person. I'm still quite curious about why so many people (of all ages too) preferred to line up.

Clearly the Irish have taken over the British habit of queueing. Sometimes I think that the British deliberately organise queues. In the Soviet Union, if you saw a queue, you always had to join it, because there was something available. Even if you didn't need it, you could always trade it with somebody for something you did need.

In a way, I rather like getting a ticket from a real person, if the lineup isn't long. And it keeps people employed too. But not knowing how long it would take me to the ticket agent, and somewhat pressed for time, I opted to deal with a computer.

At Kiev station there were several windows all for particular trains or certain people, but there were no indications which window was for which train or group. Also windows closed abruptly when the shift was done.

I had the same experience in China in the 1980s. The Communist customer service was quite amusing.

Yes, you can wait until you are blue in the hair.

Blue isn't so bad for hair. I hate yellow hair. I can take green or red also, i think.
