The Ghost Trees of Shenandoah

The Ghost Trees of Shenandoah

Chestnut trees along Skyline Drive in Virginia destroyed by Chestnut blight over seventy years ago. Chestnut trees used to be among the most common trees in the Shenandoah valley. Now only their skeletons remain. Unfortunately, foreign insect invaders are continuing to decimate certain species of trees in this region.

A token of despair, isn't it?
Globalism brings new pests and intruders and it is sad to see long term arboral friends dying slowly. Same here in the Old World.
