I really like what you did with this photo Val. You've totally recreated it and it really makes a statement. I love it especially on the big screen. Also I like that you converted it to b/w. I think that was a great choice. Nice job!!

Thank you so much, Karen! Your encouraging words mean a lot. I really do need to get out of my comfort zone more often when it comes to post-processing because that's when I learn something new ;-)

Maybe "outside your comfort zone" needs a new name Val, like "Look, chocolate!" or something similar. ;)

Yes, it seems the NYC skyline, but something is strange ....
thank you so much, Val for description of your workflow.
The dark clouds, the blurred parts ... may be this make yourself feeling a bit uncomfortable.
... This mood remembers in nine-eleven ....

Have a fine Sunday,
greetings, Heidiho

Valfal has replied to Heidiho
Thanks so much for your kind words and perspective, Heidiho! Yes, New York City evokes many different moods, and the impact of 9/11 is still present there.

A great Sunday to you, too, my friend! :-)

This is even more dramatic in large......and like Isabelle, I think it's probably close to how NY sees itself: special, dreamy, out of this world. Terrific image

Valfal has replied to Judith Jannetta
Thanks so very much, Judith! I have always thought of New York a one-of-a-kind place, and this image, I think, captures that feeling to some degree. :-)

Thanks, Diederik. This image was hard to get exactly in line due to the wide angle of the shot, I think. I tried to match the horizon from each end, which makes the island look ever so slightly off. But when I tried to straighten the island completely, the horizon would be off, so I compromised between the two ;-)

So much in such a small space
Valfal has replied to Michelle Ress
Yes, it is amazing how many skyscrapers there are per square mile. It's all thanks to the thick bedrock underneath. If you look at the skyline from the west in New Jersey, the tall skyscrapers are located on thicker bedrock while the shorter buildings are located on areas where the bedrock is thinner.

Exceptional work Val ... each shot stand alone on it's merits! That black building really draws you into the image.

As you say, 9 -11 will forever linger in NYC and across this country.

Our nephew worked in the south Tower and had just exited the building as the second plane hit ... if they hadn't left when they did he and his staff would be a name on the memorial.

As soon as he was sure his staff were out and okay he started to walk home ... he doesn't actually remember the walk but the smells , sights and sounds will stay with him forever.

Such a horrendous loss for so many families and the U.S that day.

Valfal has replied to Clickity Click
Thanks very much for your compliments, Chris! Wow, I'm so glad that your nephew didn't become a casualty of 9/11. I am sure what he went through that day will live with him forever.
