Skate skiing is hard work! They're probably plenty warm. I tried it once; in Jimmy Buffett's words, "So simple, like the jitterbug, it plumb evaded me!"

It sure is hard work...I've done it a few times and it does keep you warm. Thanks for your visit and comments.

Seen In My Opinion: an interesting viewpoint looking at rears rather than fronts and faces but hey no problem there. The action and sporting endeavour is captured and even without blur its easy to tell the effort involved. Lighting is harsh and the overall tonality is pretty bright so you have done well to retain the detail. Maybe those really bright bits are a bit of a distraction but thankfully they do not overpower. I like the fact that you have left some of the picture open for the skiers to ski into.

Great use of b&w although I would be interested in seeing the colours of their painted? designs. Hard workout or not I can't believe they don't feel the cold. Oh to be young and impervious again. Brrrr...

In an enviourment with snow it is allways diffecult to control the light, but with use of a filtre it is possible to get great shots, I would love to see this picture in colour. just my opinion please dont take it personal. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for commenting. Nothing personal taken. I once put up a photo on FB in both color and BW and asked for preference...I got about a 50/50 split, so it is often a matter of simply taste. Thanks for the suggestions on controlling light with a filter. Out of curiosity, what would you suggest? I haven't worked with filters yet, but have some that are more for long exposure and wouldn't work here I do not think for capturing action.

Here's a color version:

Outstanding capture, but largely symbolic given the inscription on the back ..!

Holy cow! In Oregon?! Totally amazing!! I've never seen anything like this, what fun! :) And I have to agree, how is it that they aren't freezing to death?! :D Of course, they are working out, so of course they are warm! :) Nice shot, thanks for sharing!

Lovely to see the colour one for comparison but for me the B&W version is a head and shoulders winner - love those details, contrasts and of course.... perfect timing and composition - brilliant work Vicky!

At Bachelor, huh? Been there a couple times--they even opened the summit lift once! I gather that doesn't happen often--

Vicky Hollenbeck has replied to slgwv
Thanks for looking. I'm not sure about the lifts because we do nordic :) We were at Bachelor quite a bit this season as they were the only place with decent snow for a while.

Ah. We do x-c too, but haven't done so there! In my old age, I've gotten to where I like the lift to do much of the work. ;) I also like the degree of control on downhill skis.

Great shot, Vicky. We often go lightly dressed into the mountains this time of the year. In spite of the snow, it's sunny and warm and the exercise makes us even warmer.

What's the meaning of SHS ?
Vicky Hollenbeck has replied to Sylvain Wiart
SHS is an abbreviation for their high school; Sisters High School (the town is called Sisters). Interestingly their team name is the Outlaws. I think this is because this small town is considered a historical Western town, part of the Wild West.

This was at a high school competition, so they are showing their school pride :)

Ok ! In the shadow of the three Sisters peaks, three volcanic sisters of Oregon were skying....
