It is the building the first draws the attention and I like it a great deal. The shapes are accentuated by the lighting and the shapes are alien to this Brit! The placement of it within the frame is also great. Top right is unusual, but right, In My Opinion. The eye then gets pulled across to the snowy mountain range. This looks great under the brooding sky. The foreground is, for me, less appealing and looks rather grey on my screen.I am no technician but I would brighten it a bit - if it were mine. Great to see you posting again in the group - it is always good to have your contribution.

Thanks for the helpful comments David. After taking another look, I agree with you completely about the snow. I've been so fearful of blowing it out here on Ipernity, I guess I overdid it on decreasing the exposure. Here's a rework...hopefully an improvement

Gorgeous shot, Vicky. Reminds me of the Palouse in eastern Washington and of some areas of Montana

Thanks so much Ron. Yes, many places here in the west are reminiscent of each other.

Here I am again, this time commenting from IMO. Perhaps because the picture is so reminiscent of scenes we see often in eastern Washington especially, I find the picture very appealing. The expanse of snow in the foreground adds depth and space to the shot, which I like and the darker exposure of the first shot does not bother me but IMO makes the picture just a touch more dramatic, but maybe my monitor is different from Dave's or yours.

Thank you Ron. It does lose a bit of the texturing in the snow when brightened and I do think that the first one might reflect the fact that it was early morning a bit better. I guess what one person likes doesn't necessarily mean all will like it and at some point as photographers we have to go with our own instincts on such things. Thanks for looking and commenting.

New to all this as you know, but I like the original better. I find winter is a dark, overcast season usually and the lighting reflects that. The darker foreground makes the silos? shine brighter as well. Either way a very nice 'scape.

Thank you Jim! New to this or not, you have and eye and I appreciate the feedback. Yes, those are grain silos.

I to prefer this one........it has more detail and an important part of the composoition for me is the diagonal line in the foreground which is almost completely lost in the lightened version. Just a matter of taste I guess. We have (so far) not had any snow in my part of the UK and spring is definitely on its way.

A cracking scene Vicky and can see the appeal of being a regular spot , I have read comment's above and both are fine versions , and sound advise , one of those shots not easy to get right with balance , sometimes a blend through layers can also make a difference

I like the sense of diagonal lead in via the shadow to the structures and then the horizontal lines wihch flow from there. Excellent composition
