Archangel Michael at Salisbury Cathedral ( Guardian Angel )

Archangel Michael at Salisbury Cathedral ( Guardian Angel )
I was totally transfixed by this beautiful piece of work , such a feeling of peace and calm I felt looking at this ,

Thanks to Kate , and Phil Sutters below :
Given that he has wings, it's more likely to be the Archangel Michael who, the story goes, led the army of Heaven, when Satan was defeated and thrown out. A more dynamic representation of Michael can be found on Coventry Cathedral, England as can be seen here www.ipernity.com/doc/293285/23612707

Phil Sutters (below) is correct, it's the Archangel Michael at Salisbury Cathedral, I just did I quick look and thought it a woman, lol!

Glad you are feeling save when looking at highly armed guys. I am still not sold on the idea that Christianity needs to relay on weaponry and armor but .

I was more appreciating it for the work of art it truly is , not so much on either the politics or religious beliefs ,and also relaying an emotion felt standing within that Cathedral

Nice capture of - what looks to me - as an "Art Déco" style interpretation of Jeanne d'Arc

Seeing this I also immediately thought of Joan of Ark Colin but then thought why would a French martyr be in an English Cathedral?
Great photo though

It's a good shot and a nice bit of art. I can see why you may have thought it female, there is a bit of a feminine look about the face also there's those nipple shields (I've never seen those on armour before). The wings are quite modest and probably only suitable for short-haul flight.
