070814 Turtle

070814 Turtle
This small/young turtle was crossing the road. I made sure it made it across safely before I took it's portrait.
I don't know much about these guys, so if anyone could fill in some details, I'd appreciate it.
It didn't look like a box turtle, and it had a tail.

That eye is superb Roger ! Amazing photo.

I think this is a Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina)

Thanks Pam :-)
Yes, the snapping turtle was also on my mind when I saw it. It's coned snout and tail gave hints. Though it's shell didn't look like a "perfect" snapping turtle. Hm.
The eyes aren't as beautiful as the box turtle's, imho, but still quite spectacular.
Thanks for the link.

We have 4 different box turtles that sporadically visit our garden in May and June. I never thught about a macro even though I love their eyes. Thank you for your picture and reminding me to look closer.
