VW Käfer Typ 11/VW Beetle Type 11 (1946)

This unusual view of a Volkswagen Beetle can be seen in the Design section of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. A small number of cars are displayed there primarily as examples of design rather than automobile history/technology. This Beetle appears to have been painted in matt overall perhaps to emphasise its form.

In the museum, this Beetle is attributed to Ferdinand Anton Ernst (Ferry) Porsche (1909-1998). The original Beetle was designed by his father, Ferdinand Porsche, although Ferry was part of the engineering team. I imagine this 1946 model was developed by Ferry as his father was in prison after WWII.
