VW Standard Limousine (1950)

Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum, München

In 1946 production at the VW works in Wolfsburg resumed and the Standard Limousine secured the long-term future of the Beetle. Developed from the Kdf vehicles, the Standard Limousine had a split rear window. The model was produced between 1946 and 1953 (around 180,000 vehicles) and came in grey or black. The 1950 date comes from the placards in both German and English - which does not readily explain the choice of 1949 on the front plate.
