Additional Information: Born 29th October 1881. Husband of Sophie Pengelly, of Church End, East Looe. William was killed during an accident aboard 'Nodzu' when she was based at Milford. Coming from a well known and respected Looe family Pengelly had been a fisherman before the war and also a Sunday school teacher with the Wesleyan Chapel. He was a life long abstainer and Rechabite and when he had some spare time had enjoyed painting and drawing. He left a wife and son. As soon as his death was announced the fishermen of the town lowered their flags to half mast and they stayed that way until his funeral, on which day all flags in the town were at half mast. The service was held in the Wesleyan chapel before his body was taken to St Martins for burial.
