Camley Street Natural Park

Camley Street Natural Park
This nature reserve was established near St Pancras and King's Cross railway stations and the Regent's Canal in North London in the early 1980s. Prior to that it had been a coal yard for the railway. It is a little oasis of calm in the big bad city. One of my interests in photography is documenting how the natural world sits alongside, and often reclaims, derelict and abandoned industrial areas (sometimes with but often without human assistance as at Camley Street). As London becomes more densely populated, the need for housing and other building space grows, and escalating property prices all contribute to the regeneration of previously run down, post industrial areas I know fewer and fewer places that meet that description. Which saddens me a little.
