Blame It On Peter Driben (Titter Feb 1955)

Blame It On Peter Driben (Titter Feb 1955)
Peter Driben was one of the most prolific pulp magazine cover artists of the 1940s through 1950s. More about this bad influence is in the first comment.

When the family all got together for Sunday night dinner at a particular aunt and uncle's home, I couldn't wait for everyone to go into the kitchen and leave me by myself. Because that gave me the opportunity for a furtive glance or two at the Girlie Mags my uncle left, openly displayed, under the TV set in the living room.

Pin-up photos of Bettie Page and other less well know models and strippers were posed in silly and very cheesy story lines. But they all had one thing in common. All the models wore incredibly fetishistic ultra high heels, black seamed stockings and provocative undies.

But the most amazing and certainly most important bad influence of this kind of magazine on me were the ads that referred to a book about how to become a Female Impersonator. All the tricks of the trade were explained with lots of photos of glamorous women who were really men. Oh, my!
