The Hector Family

The Hector Family
Cabinet Card of Rev. John H. Hector (? - 1914), his wife Eliza H. Meade Hector (1849 - 1926), whom he married January 9, 1876, in Peekskill, New York and their daughter, Geraldine. Written on the reverse, "Rev. John H. Hector - the Colored Orator from California".

Born in Windsor, Canada, Reverend John H. Hector was a popular orator, traveling around the United States and England, recounting his Civil War experiences and speaking out strongly in favor of the Temperance Party. A Civil War Veteran, he enlisted in G Company of the 11th US Colored Artillery as a Private, and mustered out holding the rank of Musician (Drummer) with his Company on Oct 2, 1865.

At one point he was a fireman, railroad engineer, and minister.

He and his wife are buried at Lebanon Cemetery in York County, Pennsylvania. I couldn't locate any additional information on their daughter.
