Women's War Relief Club

Women's War Relief Club
Due to the federal government's and the Red Cross's refusal for most of the war to register black women as nurses hurt because it frustrated the women's desires to serve the state, which was key to their own assertion of American citizenship. Expressing their desires is a photograph (above) of a group of young women in Syracuse, New York, who called themselves The Women's War Relief Club.
