Augusta Savage in her Studio

Prominent sculptor and educator, studied at Cooper Union in New York City and later in Paris.

She was commissioned by the New York World's Fair to create a sculpture celebrating African American music. Her harp-shaped interpretation of the Black anthem 'Lift Every Voice and Sing' symbolized the powerful struggle for freedom by African Americans.
