Welcome

Welcome
It was a tough choice, who or what would launch this. I have posted pictures and photobloggery in Flickr since December 2008, so nearly 4.5 years. Definitely enough time and energy for it to be considered a mini-era in an individual's life. This picture was taken this morning here in cold and rainy West Seattle. After our walk, we bundled up.

When you click on a photograph in Ipernity, there can sometimes, not always, be a pause before the image obtains its full quality. Partly this might be because you are seeing the real image, not a shrimpy conversion of the image. In other words, for one example, this picture is a 26.5 MB tiff file, about 10 x 6 (resized, not cropped), developed both in Lightroom and Photoshop. Resolution is 266 dpi. Not huge but adequate for the subject (a fierce mini-Schnauzer named Chloence). In Flickr the image gets converted into jpg format. There is also no control over what level of quality that jpg image has. When you convert to the jpg format, your software will usually ask you what level of quality you want. This can go from 1 to 10 and in some programs from 1 to 12, with the higher end being the highest quality. Not so in Flickr but I had come to be accepting of this.

I am excited about this fresh start because of this ability to post my Real McCoy images. There does not seem to be a way to "fill the screen" with a particular photograph, but the size that appears when viewing the individual image versus the tabular collection is entirely large enough. And we bless the tabular collection view. So helpful.

And also because it feels somewhat of a challenge or a dare: can I really post the same sorts of photographs I have always posted? It is a good question as to whether I have inadvertently raised the bar for myself. While this particular photographic community is growing, it is still on the small side which makes it more likely that some very good photographers might stumble upon your pictures. Do I want to be embarrassed?

I don't know if the banner can be seen by viewers or not. Anyhow, the tiger in the banner is part of a photograph taken at the Boise, ID Zoo when ERJ and I went there during the Summer of 2011.

Welcome! I am also a Flickr refugee who just joined up today to test the waters. It is a much smaller site with a European flavour but so far I am enjoying it. I can't pretend to understand a word you said about the photos being jpeged...I really am an amateur at this...but the joy I found in photography through my experiences with Flickr is all the reason I need to try another site as well.
Chloe is awfully cute here and a great welcome to your stream.

Thank you very much, WJB. Appreciate this. Yes, it has been sort of a quick Exodus but so far I also like Ipernity very much. Yes, there is a lot more language I don't understand but it seems, somehow, friendlier. At least the Ipernity staff sure has been helpful and kind. I had looked at your photographs earlier. Love the kitties, but the chipmunk (I always get the chipmunks and squirrels mixed up) is my favorite. Partly because where I use to live I had two families of them in poplar trees who seemed to be waging a feud or something. They were too funny to watch. So when I saw your photograph, it was a nice memory of when my daughter and I would sit on the patio in the evening and watch them go to town. They were so bold!

What an unexpected change. We will have to watch as your site develops and see if we shall follow. From your description, it sounds like a group of expatriots running off to Paris!

It is surely some sort of exodus.

well...I'm in Ipernity for almost four years...Ipernity used to be more personal...I do not like completely the new version that looks more and more like flickr and facebook...but,after all it still is better than flickr as far as I can assume from the huge flock of flickers running in here...we will see anyway how this will go on...!!

Many thanks, Helena, for your kind welcoming. It will take me a bit to get things rolling again but it will eventually happen. Would appreciate your suggestion of groups to explore. So far I am very glad I made this change.
