Necropolis
Kerameikos is an area of Athens, Greece, located to the northwest of the Acropolis, which includes an extensive area both within and outside the city walls, on both sides of the Dipylon Gate and by the banks of the Eridanos River.

The Dexileos Monument. Cenotaph (empty grave) for Dexileos, the son of Lysanias of Thorikos. Dexileos was one of 5 knights who died at Corinth in 394 B.C. His remains were buried at public expense in the Demosion Sema, but his family erected a private tombstone here as well. An inscription below the relief record the both the date of his birth (414/3 B.C.) and of his death (394 B.C.).
