House of the Teachers
The first high rise building at Alexanderplatz was built between 1962 and 1964, it is the so called "House of the Teachers" – with 12 storeys and 54 metres high - built by the architect Hermann Henselmann.
The foundation stone was laid on 12-12-1962. The "House of the Teachers" was erected at the very same spot where the Berlin teachers´ community house had been built in 1908 which had been destroyed during the war.
