Lupins, Denali National Park, Alaska (H.A.N.W.E.)
This was actually a "lens test" I did while wandering around our campground at Denali National Park, Alaska.

I was testing the macro capability of the Sigma lens I was using on the Nikon D700 camera. In this case, I closed down to F16, and got more good flower detail. But even with some detail, there is a bit of nice bokeh here.

Image processed with GIMP.

This is really nice. I think your depth of field brings just the right amount of softness to the background flowers.

i've 'suggested' that you add this to my group 'naturey crap - crappy nature' - if you want.

Thanks for the recommendation. I posted a lot of photos in Flickr "naturey crap", too. It's not that I don't enjoy pictures of nature, but it seems to be overdone. I'm more than willing to classify some of my work under the "crap" heading :-)

Ah! You were in 'naturey crap'! That is the group I stole half the name from. There was also one called 'crappy nature' - so I grouped them for here. And yes, you have the concept exactly. It's become a no-judge nature photo group. We know nature photos are pretty, but do we really need another one? Yes!! But we can't all take "perfect" photos, but we still like to share - and that's great also.

Oh yes, regarding the DoF involved. The other image I have was with F 4.5, and everything was soft and blurry (maybe that is considered arty?) On the spot, I tried stopping down a ways and most of the lupin flower is now clearer, while retaining a soft background. That was the point of using a "macro" telephoto-ish lens; trying to get the effect described here.
