Buddha 1a

Buddha 1a
Help Wanted No 2a
I was told this Buddha is Japanese, it is 21cm high and I think was sand cast. I assumed it to be made of bronze or brass but with only atmospheric moisture it oxidises in patches to that lovely blue / green colour of copper. The detail of the statue is quite poor. Perhaps this was always so or perhaps with repeated castings detail has been lost? The right hand of the original that this was cast from was at some time broken off. This was repaired with a big blobby join with no attempt to blend the repair at all. Why anyone would cast such a statue has me intrigued. There is an inscription on the back that I have uploaded in the following image. If anyone can provide any information about this Buddha I would be grateful.

This is very interesting, and I agree - it is often the faults that make a piece interesting :o)
You have a lot of artifacts, are you a private collector or is this a part of your job?

'Collector' is far too dignified a description for me, Pixie.
I acquire things that interest me, things I don't understand.
I try to solve their mysteries, putting them to one side when I can't,
sometimes for years.
(the mala I've had for 12 or 15 years and am still no closer to knowing it's secrets
