Roy Orbison glasses

22 Jun 2015 186
Roy Orbison's prescription sunglasses. Many years ago I had the chance to wear these for a few minutes. Powerful is the operative word.

Roy Orbison signature etching

22 Jun 2015 154
Roy Orbison's etched signature. Yes I have all the singles, albums, compact discs I could lay my hands on along with a few cassettes, 8 tracks and digital discs!

Duane Eddy signature etching

22 Jun 2015 157
Duane Eddy's etched signature. My first 78 was "Rebel 'Rouser" and first album "Duane Eddy plus two smash hits by Neil Sedaka and Donnie Owens" on the now quite defunct Canadian distributed Reo label. Very proud to say I have everything he's released .... I think.

Duane Eddy guitar

Rock and Ro9ll Hall of Fame 2015 inductees: Bill Withers, Ringo Starr, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, The 5 Royales, Joan Black and the Blackhearts, The Paul Butterfield Band, Green Day and Lou Reed. This was our fifth visit. It's always changing and always interesting.

Beatles drum set

22 Jun 2015 189
The Beatles Ludwig Drum kit. One of the main exhibits during our visit.

Pro Football Hall of Fame

21 Jun 2015 143
The (American) Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio and well worth the visit. The exhibits essentially revolve around a magnificent statue of Jim Thorpe. This facility was easy to find and there's plenty of parking.

PNC Park

24 Jun 2015 134
There are lots of wonderful places to dine in and around the park and plenty of your favourite refreshments also. "The Beer Market" is directly across the street and serves nothing but import brews from around the world. They don't even serve snacks! Great place on a great day!

PNC Park

24 Jun 2015 129
A great replacement for Three Rivers Stadium PNC Park (Pittsburgh National Corporation Financial Services Group, Inc.) is the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yes, your writer likes this park too! Located on the north shore of the Allegheny River this classic park opened in 2001. Our motel was on the north side of the river so driving to the stadium was a breeze although parking was a bit of a challenge.

Consol Centre PPenguins

24 Jun 2015 167
The Consol Energy Center is the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins replacing what was the oldest NHL arena, The Pittsburgh Civic Arena, in 2010. Penquins owner Mario Lemieux and Captain Sidney Crosby officially christened the new ice in July. The statue depicts Mario Lemieux breaking through another team's defence. Originally we put the title into our GPS and ended up at the Consul Energy headquarters about a half-hour outside the city in a rather affluent area.

Progressive Field

22 Jun 2015 137
It was once Jacob's Field but since 2008 it's been Progressive (Insurance Company) Field in Cleveland. Another great ball park! Wonderful fans, food and atmosphere. We walked from the third floor of the parking garage straight into the ballpark. Despite a downpour and tornado warnings in nearby communities the game was delayed less than fifteen minutes.

Quicken Arena

22 Jun 2015 180
The home of the NBA Cavaliers, Quicken Loans Arena aka "The Q" is in downtown Cleveland and adjacent to Progressive Field and the Cleveland Indians. Together these facilities constitute the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex. FYI Billy Joel opened the Quicken Loans Arena in 1994.

Barb and Jerry Dwyer

28 Jul 2014 161
Barb and Jerry Dwyer joined us for dinner one evening. What a pleasure to meet this generous couple. Jerry owned Dwyer Air Services who flew the trio on the "day the music died". Jerry noted that the flight did not leave in a snowstorm and he was the first to find the wreckage the next morning. This couple was responsible for erecting the Roger Peterson memorial.

Crash site

28 Jul 2014 170
Missing from this photo is the pilot Roger Peterson memorial. It's sad for those of us at a certain age to see the junk surrounding what means so much to so many.

Buddy Holly crash site entrance

28 Jul 2014 127
For many years it was most difficult to find the crash site. This is now at the entrance of the path leading to a familiar picture.

Surf Memorial

28 Jul 2014 129
This memorial stands outside the ballroom. It will be familiar to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper fans.

Surf mens room

28 Jul 2014 130
Nature called so a long-time Surf employee pointed to one of the many men's rooms. Standing room only on this side. I had not seen that many urinals in a row until our visit.
