Pretty Flamingo

In 1966 Gene Pitney recorded the cut "Flamingo" for the album "Backstage". Although it may be disputed this was the first recording of the song according to composer Mark Barkan.

Manfred Mann (Manfred Lubowitz aka Mann, Paul Pond aka Jones, Tom McGuiness, Jack Bruce and Mike Hugg) hit with "Pretty Flamingo". Although it peaked in the Billboard top thirty in 1966 it was more successful in the U.K. and Canada. Incidentally that is Cream's Jack Bruce on bass. He was with the group for a brief time. The Manfred Mann group has gone through several personnel and name changes including The Manfreds (without Manfred Mann), Manfred Mann Chapter Three and Manfred Mann's Earth Band that recorded Bob Dylan's "Quinn the Eskimo",
