Just a Gigolo I Ain't Got Nobody

The poem was composed by Juluis Brammer in 1924, the music by Leonello Casucci in 1928. "Schoner, Gigolo, armer Gigolo" (Casucci - Brammer) is performed by Irene Bondoni in 1931.

Bing Crosby and the Gus Arnheim Orchestra had Bing's first solo hit with "Just a Gigolo" (Brammer - Casucci - Caesar) also from 1931.

"I Ain't Got Nobody Much and Nobody Cares For Me" (Graham -Williams) by Ben Linn was released in 1917. This is the earliest version I could find of this standard.

The poor quality of The Mills Brothers (Harry, Herbert, John and Donald) "I Ain't Got Nobody" is because it's taken from a Fleischer cartoon from 1932. An authentic "follow the bouncing ball" movie short.

Usually we play about a minute of the selection then go into the hit but, in order to do justice to the production, here we go somewhat further. Louis Prima's "Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" features Sam Butera on sax along with his group The Witnesses (James Blount, William McCumber, Jack Marshall, Amado Rodriques and Robert Morris). Louis Prima's wife Keely Smith is one of the background singers. This is the opening cut from the 1956 album "The Wildest". Louis was first to combine the two pieces earlier in his stage act.

David Lee Roth was still a member of Van Halen in early 1985 when he released the EP "Crazy From the Heat" featuring the hits "California Girls" and "Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody". Even though they stand well as audio tracks, the videos could have been another reason for their success on the Billboard top twenty.
