During a visit at the American cemetary at Colleville-sur-Mer - we had visited the German cemetary at La Cambe a year before - Mrs. Delminho asked me if I thought the soldiers' ghosts would rise ar night and fight each other again. I shook my head. I think that, apart from those whom the devil took (at La Cambe I saw at least one graveside bearing the grade of "Staffelführer", so that's probably one of those...), the ghosts might rise at night. And then, they will sit by a campfire, and share old stories along with some bottles of Calvados. And at dawn, when it's time to part company and leave the site to the living, they'll say: "So long, guys - it was tough have to fight you back then, and it's good our offspring don't have to do that anymore. Rest well, and see you all tomorrow night."
