This nearest road is a new bit of road laid down since the bridge over the M25 was closed here because of the HS2 chiltern tunnel entry point being constructed. You can just see a gantry and other steel works on the left of the picture. Then between that and the new road lies the M25 totally hidden to our view at this point. Hi Rosa ~ I cannot see why they don't build a new two lane dual carriageway to the left of the existing road when travelling west. They could then build a earth bank to screen off the view of Stonehenge from the road so as passing drivers do not get distracted .

In time the whole length of the A303 needs to be dual carriageway.

Of course Stonehenge was originally built as a roundabout for ley lines as the foot traffic was causing congestion . Merlin threw a fit

That is exactly what we have always said Nick. It's just ridiculous. The part of the A303 from Sparkford to Podimore is due to be made dual carriageway soon, so at least that will be one problem sorted.
