Yes, this is a real railway!! A design known as the Lartigue monorail, the idea being that it is cheap to construct, as the ground does not have to be leveled, any irregularities taken up by different heights of the frame. The disadvantages were many, such as the complexity of points and crossings, and the need for mobile steps to be included in the train for passengers to get to the far side of the coaches. Only in Ireland!!

On Wednesday 07 September 2011, a DB Schenker Rail Class 60 locomotive was named The Spirit of Tom Kendell during a private ceremony at Knottingley depot. The naming was held in remembrance of Tom Kendell, a young and enthusiast engineer at the company who lost his life in an accident. The name was unveiled in front of friends and family members of Tom after short speeches by John Langton, Head of Risk Management for DB Schenker Rail, and Tom’s mother, Andrea Kendell. The name was unveiled by Tom’s father, Mark Kendell. The locomotive has also had the logo of DB Schenker Rail’s safety campaign for employees, called Switch on to Safety, applied to it.
