In England masks have never been compulsory outside, anywhere.
Especially not in cafes and pubs for the simple reason that you can't eat your food or drink your beer!!!!

I understand, but the fact is that no-one even has a mask around their neck for use when required! Of course you can't drink or smoke, let alone eat through a mask (Gawd knows, I've tried!), but I would have thought at least some of them would be with a mask.

The thing here is there is no 'use when required'. They are not allowed inside the pub, only to drink outside. (You will notice two waitresses with orange aprons). Hence there is no scenario when someone might 'just need to use a mask.'.

I didn't know, Peter.
Very much at odds with over a year's worth of government admonishments in Spain!! I remember being astonished when I heard that parks were open and that joggers could run anywhere without masks in the UK, when all this was strictly verboten here!
I have to admit to being very nervous in ANY public space without a mask! A walk in the country without bumping into anyone would be a different matter!
There are aguments for and against, as in anything else.

I,m happy for you! Our pubs will open next monday but people who is not fully vaccinated must drink or eat outside or must show a negative covid test for entry!
