Crikey, Peter! I used to drive out here with my gf at that time, because her brother lived nearby! We had a few pub lunches here. I'm talking late 80s.

Yes, it is still open, and doing good trade. As with most pubs in England now, the way to make business is to serve food. They pride themselves on good food.
To conform with our current 'corona rules' they have just spaced the tables out a bit more, and introduced a one way system..

From time to time hare might be on the menu, but it wasn't on the day I visited. Pig, cow, sheep, chicken, and lots of fishes were available though!

Unfortunately because of the trees, there is no view of the planes from there.
However, it was good food, good beer, and a nice waitress!

This is a lovely looking country pub and an excellent phoo! Pub meals have come a long way- ages ago I ordered chicken curry with rice in a pub and got more greasy chips than rice with it...;-)

You are right. Since the smoking ban, and the rise of cheap alcohol in supermarkets, the only way pubs have stayed open is to shift their market onto food. Hence, to all intents and purposes, they are restaurants, and compete in the same market sectors.
