The houses you can see are very posh, perhaps not typical of the village. The side I am standing on has no houses, and opens onto a nature reserve. There is a very well used (especially in lockdown times) footpath along this side of the river. Popular with dog walkers too.

This river is kind of man made in that the banks have been built up a very long time ago to divert it into its present course. My guess is that it was kind of just a swamp before hand. Further downstream is a weir, and then a couple of locks, so it is now very controlled.
