The ghosts of St. Boltoph’s Church

St Botolph’s Church in Skidbrooke is among the most haunted spots in Lincolnshire and is a centre for unexplained paranormal activity.

The isolated, abandoned church has had many dealings with Satanist groups over the past few decades. Because of this Skidbrooke has been the subject of much publicity due to reports of paranormal activity at the church. Several ghosthunters have reported unusual goings-on at the building, and the church was nicknamed ‘the Demon church’ after it became popular with the Satanist groups of 1970’s and 1980’s.

In 2004, St. Botolph’s church was in the news for having been the place where animal sacrifices had taken place, and satanic graffiti had been found on the walls.

Visitors have reported seeing a ghostly monk on the site, seeing odd lights and hearing sounds of storms in calm weather, and hearing strange, unexplained noises at night.

A 15-strong team of paranormal investigators fromLincolnshireandNorfolkfound at St Botolph’s, using night-vision cameras, images of up to 200 rods – cylindrical objects travelling at high speed in the skies.

The history of St. Boltoph’s Church

St Botolph’s Church, Skidbrooke, is a redundant Anglican church near the village of Skidbrooke. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands in an isolated position in theLincolnshire marshlands

Dating from the early 13th century, with alterations and additions in the 14th and 15th centuries, and in 1854 and 1871. the Diocese of Lincoln declared this church redundant in November, 1973

The abandoned church is not far from the east coast, surrounded by a small cluster of trees with a small grave yard.

The church gained the name as the Demon church as it was regularly used by Satanists in the latter part of the 70’s and 80’s. Many paranormal groups have visited and reported the place to be quite active.

Is this a bridgehouse beneath the church? HFF Steve...I like this very peaceful mood ;)

S Drury has replied to Tanja - Loughcrew
Hello Tanja we would call this building a Lychgate ( a roofed gateway to a churchyard, formerly used at burials for sheltering a coffin until the clergyman's arrival )

Hello Steve, HFF my friend, I like the contrast in the old stone church and the wood on the little covered bridge. have wanted to ask, is that tower on the church leaning a bit?? have a great HFF , tho you are well into you afternoon there. YS Sarah xx

S Drury has replied to Sarah O'
Hello my dear Sarah thank you for your HFF and comments .. i do not think the tower is leaning on this church ( though many of our spired type church towers do )

this is perhaps caused by the angle i took the shot

Hi Steve

At first sight I thought you had been to Old Warden! www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/45729402
I can certainly see a design theme here!

This is so much more interesting with having the wooden bridge. I've never seen one in this country before!

Gets a big star from me!

Best wishes
