The nerve centre of the largest world empire up to that time - Phillip II's imposing palace / monastery.
Worth a look on large and further for the palace detail.
La Sierra de La Cabrera - granite extravaganza!

I have a very strong need to get back walking here again. It's been four years now, what with one thing after another, but I aim to get up there this Spring for the Spring wildflower show (so last 2 weeks in May in reality).
La Sierra de La Cabrera from the other side (see p…

This is from the south and shows the steeper rise to the crest of the ridge. It was a slightly hazy autumn day and I went for a slightly hazy look. Therefore not worth enlarging for detail; there isn't any!
Sight and Sound; The best pop song of all time in my opinion and that of John Peel. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PinCg7IGqHg

Sierra de La Cabrera with the brooding hulk of Mondalindo behind. Possibly better on large to view the granite shapes in more detail.

My sister's shot from the house.
I'd long forgotten this song but it seems a perfect classic rock song of its time, the early 70s. And it certainly sounds better to me today than when it was released when I was all into Hendrix, Joplin and so on! Sight and Sound:

A view ove the Jarama Valley from a terrace to the Sierra de Guadarrama, including my beloved Sierra de La Cabrera at the left.
Mountain stream on granite. 2 shots for the price…
Granite par excellence!

My favourite walking territory (alongside Cornish sea cliffs and coasts)
Sierra de La Cabrera.
Granite and broom and spot the rock window!

I don't think I've posted this before (but certainly on Panoramio). Typical granite forms up on the ridge.

Looking for lunch? Looking a little wistfully at me perhaps? 12 years ago but I remember it as a scorcher! The following day I was back in Cornwall for a couple of months as there are no classes to be had in Spain in the summer and so no earnings :o(
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9EbR0ckb40 A bit of Roxy Music doesn't do any harm!
Poppy field. HANWE everybody!

Looking forward to spring!
Sadly poppies don't thrive here any more. A new farmer wants profitable fields and who can blame him? Btw, that white wall has been knocked down between 2015 and now. I can't find it on Google maps but I know exactly where I was at the time!
Sight and sound. A bit of Rachmaninov didn't harm anyone!

La Sierra de La Cabrera. There are a number of rock climbs along the ridge of all grades to suit all capabilities.

(The needles of Cancho Gordo). La Sierra de La Cabrera granite. I don't think I've posted this on ipernity: certainly on Panoramio. I'm looking forward to getting up there again after a l o o o n g five year absence (for a whole variety of reasons).

I couldn't help but trample them, there were so many - but I reckoned they were tough little buggers so I soon stopped worrying about my foot placement!
La Sierra de La Cabrera, granite.
Better on large to see this hardy plant en masse.
La Sierra de La Cabrera - HANWE everyone!

An oldie and a winter shot. Bitterly cold. This shows much of the taller western end of the Sierra.
I hope to return here before too long.
Better on large for granite detail.

Where I had planned to walk today and catch the last of the spring flowers. But today was just about the wettest June day on record so I ventured nowhere near! But I hope to get up there fairly soon, and before the relentless summer heat kicks in, which it will do in a week or two! This shot was a taken at midsummer but here, high up, it is still showing Spring wildflowers so I still have some hope!
