Flora and fauna
Random shots of wildlife but mainly of colourful plants and flowers
Orchid, Anacamptis picta.

Growing tall and happy in La Sierra de La Cabrera. By no means rare, but still a delight to come across one - or normally a few in close proximity!
I went to see if I could get some wild tulip and poppy shots yesterday.
No joy.
I got Spanish lavender and orchids instead!

Wonderful walking country and more or less undiscovered with Madrid only 25 miles away!
Happy Fence Friday!

Pasiflora. My Mum's garden again!
Despite some sour and peevish comments many of us received from an unexpected source (unexpected to me anyway!), let's make this terrific site flourish!!
'Surely it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness!'

I have walked this stretch of the Roman road many times these past 5 years and I always stop and give an apple to my friend here. My girlfriend brings a few carrots (although she wasn't present on this occasion). Horsey accepted the apple graciously enough but turned away as soon as he realised carrots weren't forthcoming!

Both plants are abundant at the moment in the countryside of Central Spain.
Taken near El Escorial.
I see some leaf-cutting insect has had a go at the petals!

One of the happiest HFF shots I can remember posting for a few months! Now all we need to do is make it work!!
Wild flowers near Valdemanco, Madrid, on the approach to La Sierra de La Cabrera.
HFF! (yes it's there on the left).

Some of you may remember, from Panoramio, this piece of land belonging to my girlfriend. She is still trying to sell it, if anyone is interested!
In the foreground; Spanish lavender.

The notorious (for shipping anyway) Hell's Mouth is tucked in the cliffs in the middle distance.
Fundraising is still going on. Apparently and, ultimately, IMA need at least 50.000 $ to continue Ipernity into 2018!

HFF to all my ipernity and IMA friends.
There is a fence in there somewhere; the horse has got it (almost) covered!

North Cliffs, Cornwall.
This shot is taken from the ramparts of Crane Castle, or what is left of this Iron Age hill fort. The flowering bank in the foreground leads up to the top of the landward defensive rampart; nearly all of the fort is now under the sea and would have occupied the now disappeared land between this position and the island ahead.

Even the out of bounds and long decommissioned nuclear research station of Nancekuke seen on the horizon at far right can't much detract from the scene.
HFF once again!!!

My Mum's garden again. It's a very good source of fences when I don't come across all that many fences in my day to day life here in Madrid! I do hope you don't mind!
