Ancient field wall, heather and granite.

Ancient field wall, heather and granite.
Bosigran, Zennor, Cornwall. South West Peninsula Coast Path.
The remains of neolithic field walls said to be the oldest stone constructions still used for their original purpose and possibly up to 8,000 years old.

Andy Rodker club has replied to José Manuel Polo club
I have no idea, José Manuel.
I have never known anything different around these coasts so you may be right.
I remember asking the same question when I was a child, thinking it might be pollution and, while I can't now remember the answer I was given, it definitily wasn't caused by pollution!
The rock is all granite here.

Fascinating that something which looks like part of the landscape was built all that time ago.

Thank you, Judite. Probably not used as a field now but still used as boundary markers between farm properies I suspect! Here, obviously a field edge and at one time substantial enough to keep cattle from straying down the cliffs. 8,000 years of severe Atlantic weather has reduced the walls to these mere stubs!

Lovely view and what a wonderful old fence! Would have needed something to keep catttle away from those cliffs.

8,000 years ago and I imagine the walls would have been substantial enough to do the job, Ron!
But Atlantic storms are fierce and often destructive and I'm amazed we can still follow the line of these walls; a testament to the building skills of those early farmers!

I'm guessing that most of these neolithic walls weren't as close to the sea when they were first laid down!

A lovely view over the cliff edge Andy.............I like the textures and details in the rocks. A nice display of heather on the cliff edge too!

Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you, Keith.
Not completely sure about that. In many cases you're quite right, especilly where the rock is softer than granite, but here it's granite and I should think less quick to erode.

Beautiful dizzy view, Andy. You chose the perfect POV to give us a thrilling shiver!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Annalia S.
I didn't mean to give anyone a shiver, Annalia and am struggling to see how that could be but if I did, I apologise! If you mean being close to the edge, I am standing on the coast path which crosses left to right (or right to left) some distance away from the edge. Appearances can be deceptive, but nothing along these lines was intended!!!!!

Annalia S. has replied to Andy Rodker club
I meant an exciting shiver, Andy, not a terrifying one! :) And yes, the POV gives the appearance of standing right at the edge. I am not afraid of heights and even did some mountain climbing when I was younger, so to me that feeling is more thrilling than scary. Although, of course, the perception of being at the edge of a precipice always entails a heightened sense of danger. Sorry I made you think I disliked the image when it is quite the opposite!

Andy Rodker club has replied to Annalia S.
No worries, Annalia! It's only after your comment that I realised that it was possible to see the drop in that light! I suppose I don't notice these things because, like you, I did a lot of rock climbing in my teens and twenties! Have a good weekend!

I always like the combination that your photos offer us of the discreet hues of the coastal flora, of the grass that surrounds it, of the rocks that they overhang and of the omnipresent water that wants to swallow everything in this kind of omnipotence that governs our lives! I simply love this balance of power, so much more natural & healthier than that which our society induces...

In my Spain shots of the countryside you tend to see the same colour of the wild flora but here it's lavender rather than heather! I like both,

Wow, thank you for explaining those huge rocks to us. I never knew about these being originally there as a field wall, and I've often seen them on the top of the cliffs around here.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre club
Some will be field walls from a long time ago, most probably won't be, but it's always interesting to conjecture! Thank you, Jenny!
