Indeed, Peter. I posted shots of this olmo (elm tree) in its full glory last year and even in Spain it is famous as seeming to be resistant to Dutch Elm Disease. Long may that continue to be the case but, sadly, it would appear to be succumbing to something else gradually; old age!

The plaza looks like a great place for such gatherings and it's no doubt (in normal times) full of people all year round. The tree provides some welcome shade. Such a shame that probably won't be the case for the rest of this year at least.

A nice corner of the Sierra de Madrid. This year there will be no patron saint festivities in my town. So many things in our lives affected and threatened by irresponsible people, but the silence to hold China accountable to the rest of the 200 countries in the world is terribly clamorous. That scares me.

However, You raise a very important issue here.
China has found that its stealthy programme of world domination is being rapidly found out. It should have been found out years ago. We were too slow and now we are lost. Covid is a very small part of of a bigger worldwide scenario. In Britain we have the two problems on the surface; of the Huawei 5G network about to be stripped out and Hong Kong, where we do have a moral responsibility to rehouse its citizens if they want to come here.
Deeper problems are that China has already infiltrated most of the boardrooms of major capitalist companies in many sectors of the West and bribed its way into influence in the countries of Africa (mainly), that supply it with the raw material that it needs. There is much more to say here (Tibet, Taiwan, The Uighurs), but this is a photo sharing website!
Enough said. It is a ghastly totalitarian dictatorship, more evil than most in the complacent West believe possible.
